Rim Types
Rims for Every Wheel — Forklift, Tipper & Skid-Steer

Split / Lock-Ring Rims
For solid resilient (cushion) tyres — rim diameters ≤12 in
A two-piece steel rim: a base rim and a removable lock ring. The solid tyre is pressed onto the base, then the lock ring seats into a machined groove to retain the tyre under load. Standard for counterbalance forklifts on 8-inch, 9-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch rim diameters. Available in zero-offset (bolt flange centred across the rim width) and offset (flange set to one side for axle positioning) configurations — specify your forklift model so we match the correct offset. A sprung lock ring under pressure is a serious safety hazard.

One-Piece Cushion Rims
For solid resilient tyres — rim diameters ≥15 in
A single-piece steel rim — sometimes called a lock-type rim — where the tyre bead is retained by rim geometry and interference fit rather than a separate lock ring. Typically used on 15-inch, 16-inch, and 20-inch rim diameters. Simpler to handle than a split rim, but the rim must match the forklift hub specification exactly — confirm stud count, bolt circle diameter, and centre bore before ordering.

Base Bands (Steel Bands)
For press-on band (POB) tyres
A steel ring welded permanently to the forklift wheel hub. Press-on band tyres are pressed onto and off the base band using a hydraulic press, relying on interference fit rather than lock ring hardware. The base band OD must match the POB tyre ID precisely — use our OD group tables when selecting. No lock ring is involved.

Reference Table
Rim Width & Base Band Reference
Rim widths are the nominal specification for each solid resilient (cushion) tyre size. Wheel construction is size-driven: rim diameters up to 12 inches use a two-piece split / lock-ring assembly; 15-inch and larger use a one-piece lock-ring or side-ring design. Verify against your forklift manufacturer's documentation before ordering.

Selection & Replacement Guidance
Why Rim Width Matters — and When to Replace
Why Rim Width Must Match Tyre Spec
Solid resilient tyres are engineered to a specific rim width. The rim width determines how the tyre bead seats and how load stress distributes across the carcass. Fitting a tyre to an undersized rim raises the tyre profile, increases bending stress in the sidewall, and reduces load capacity. An oversized rim spreads the tyre too wide, distorts the bead, and causes premature delamination at the bond line between tread and base layers.
For press-on band tyres, the relationship between tyre ID and base band OD is governed by interference fit tolerance. If the fit is too loose, the tyre walks on the rim under load, generating heat and causing failure. Always match POB tyres to the correct OD group — see our press-on band tyre range.
Bolt Pattern & Hub Fit
Beyond rim width and type, the hub bolt pattern must match your forklift's wheel hub. Different forklift models use different stud counts and bolt circle diameters (BCD) — Godrej counterbalance models typically use 3-stud or 4-stud patterns; larger Toyota and Hyundai models may use 5-stud or 6-stud patterns. Always confirm stud count, BCD, and centre bore size before ordering. Rims are drilled to standard PCD as stock, with custom PCD available to order — send your bolt circle diameter and stud count and we drill to match. Share your forklift make and model with us for verification before rim dispatch.
Dangers of Mismatched or Worn Rims
Worn tyre seat allows tyre to rotate on rim under braking — generating heat and causing delamination
Corroded bead seat prevents even seating — one side sits higher, causing uneven wear and vibration
Cracked or fractured rim is a catastrophic failure risk under load — inspect before every tyre change
Sprung or unseated lock ring on a split rim is a projectile hazard during pressing — never use a damaged lock ring
When to Replace a Rim vs Re-Tyre Only
At each tyre change, inspect the rim for cracks, corrosion pitting at the bead seat, scoring from tyre walk, and lock ring groove wear. Replace the rim if any of these are found — fitting a new tyre to a damaged rim wastes the tyre and reintroduces the same failure mode. A good rim will outlast several tyre sets when properly maintained.
FAQs
Forklift Rim Questions
Do you supply rims with tyres?
Yes, rims are supplied against tyre orders on request. Specify your forklift model and current rim when placing a tyre order — we will confirm the correct rim size and type. Rims are not sold separately without a corresponding tyre order.
Can I reuse my old rim with a new solid tyre?
In many cases yes, provided the rim is not corroded, cracked, out-of-round, or worn at the tyre seat. A worn or damaged rim causes premature tyre failure. Have the rim inspected before pressing on a new tyre — if in doubt, replace it.
What rim size fits a 500-8 solid forklift tyre?
A 500-8 solid forklift tyre mounts on a 3.00-8 rim — 3 inches wide, 8-inch diameter. We supply 3.00-8 rims powder-coated and drilled to standard PCD, alongside tyre orders.
What rim width does a 23×9-10 solid tyre need?
The CT-23×9-10 solid resilient tyre requires a 6.5-inch rim width. Using a narrower rim raises the tyre profile and increases sidewall stress under load.
What is a base band?
A base band (steel band) is the steel ring onto which a press-on band (POB) tyre is pressed by interference fit. It is welded to the forklift wheel hub permanently. POB tyres are fitted and removed with a hydraulic press — no lock ring is involved.
What is the difference between a split rim and a cushion rim?
A split rim (also called lock-type rim) uses a separate lock ring seated in a groove to retain the tyre. A one-piece cushion rim retains the tyre by geometry alone. Split rims come in zero-offset and offset configurations. Split / lock-ring rims are standard on rim diameters up to 12 inches; one-piece designs are typical on 15-inch and larger rims.
Do you supply rims for tipper trucks and skid-steer loaders?
Yes, on enquiry. Send your machine make, hub size, PCD, and required rim size by WhatsApp or via the enquiry form — we will confirm availability and quote.
When should I replace a rim rather than just re-tyre?
Replace the rim if you find visible cracks, significant corrosion at the bead seat, scoring from tyre walk, or a worn lock ring groove. A damaged rim will fail the new tyre prematurely and is a safety hazard.
How do I determine the correct rim type for my forklift?
Check the forklift's maintenance manual for the specified rim size and type. Key parameters: rim diameter (last number in the tyre designation), rim width, and rim type (split/lock-ring for solid resilient; base band for press-on band). Share your forklift make, model, and tyre size — we confirm before dispatch.
Can you supply rims without a tyre order?
Rims are supplied alongside tyre orders as a convenience for complete retyre hardware. They are not a standalone product by default. If you need a rim only, contact us with your forklift model and rim specification — we can advise on feasibility.
